Theme: Dementia Awareness – Africa Focus
Welcome to Dementia Awareness, Africa Focus. Please join us and other dementia organisations in raising dementia awareness in our society. While experts continue to research better care for people living with the condition, as well as better support for those caring for them, in November 2022, the organisation embarked on a fact-finding mission to Africa, specifically Nigeria, the continent’s largest country. We hope to share some of our findings at this latest event, and we hope to raise more awareness and eventually increase people’s participation in our programmes. We also hope to use this occasion to remind us that dementia affects nearly 920,000 people in the United Kingdom alone, as well as over 55 million people worldwide, and that the numbers are rising. We must continue to raise dementia awareness, especially in light of recent events. The COVID-19 outbreak affected everyone, but especially people with dementia, and the full impact on this group is still unknown, especially due to low dementia awareness in Africa. We hope to inspire our friends and family to seek help if there are unexplained changes in our loved one’s behaviour and appearance. We must remove the stigma and isolation associated with dementia. We all want to be more #DementiaAware, and early detection is critical in dementia care.
We hope you will join us to learn more about dementia and hear from other dementia care leaders about how we can raise dementia awareness in Africa and promote increased dementia awareness. We will also review previous research on dementia kinds, symptoms, and what happens after a dementia diagnosis. You will learn more about the activities meant to assist people living with dementia their and carers. You will also discover what defines a dementia-friendly atmosphere, how to find the best dementia-friendly environment, how to find the best dementia care facility for your loved one, and many more.
