Welcome you to Dementia Action and Awareness Week. Please join us and other dementia organisations in raising awareness of dementia in our society, while the experts continue to research better care for people living with the condition, as well as better support for those caring for them. We also hope to use this time, to remind us that dementia affects nearly 900,000 people in the UK alone, over 50 million people worldwide, and that the numbers are rising. It is critical that we continue to raise dementia awareness, especially in light of the events of the last two years. The pandemic (Covid-19 outbreak) affected everyone, but especially people with dementia, and the full impact on this group is yet unknown. To encourage our friends and families to seek help if there are unexplained changes in our loved ones’ behaviour and presentation, we must break down the isolation barriers and stigma associated with dementia. Early detection is critical in dementia care, and we all want to be more #DementiaAware.

Theme: Reflections
It was heartwarming to welcome so many people to the reflection event, which followed the dementia action and awareness week events, which concluded on Sunday, May 22, 2022. One of the key themes that emerged from the reflection was the scarcity of such events aimed at the black and minority ethnic communities. As one caregiver correctly stated, “if we can have more of these types of events, especially on a face-to-face basis, targeting our own communities, we may be able to convince our people that seeking help at an early stage of suspecting a change in our loved one’s behaviour is the right thing to do.” This will allow us to connect with organisations like this one, as well as know who to contact, where to go, and how to deal with the initial shock of a dementia diagnosis in a loved one. We need all the assistance we can get. So, thank you to dementia care experience and workshops for organising such an event, and we hope it continues for a long time. We require it. “Thank you.”
DECEW is proud of our collaborations, and the feedback indicates that we are on the right track and that we can all work together to raise dementia awareness. We hope to see more people, private and public organisations, at our events in the future.
DECEW and the entire team would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has assisted the organisation during this trying time, especially during the pandemic. We appreciate your unwavering support and look forward to continuing it. We want to break down even more barriers and reach out to more people, especially those from black minority ethnic communities.
If you have any questions, would like to sponsor us, or volunteer with us, please contact us at info@decew.co.uk and events@decew.co.uk. Please visit our donations page if you want to help the organisation grow. Your donation enables us to continue our work to increase dementia awareness and understanding, particularly among black minority ethnic communities and also the general public. We can make a difference if we all work together.
