Caring for Caregivers of People Living with Dementia

Dementia is a term used to describe a group of progressive neurological disorders; it is an illness caused by damage to the brain. It can also be defined as a “syndrome” that occurs as a result of a brain disease that is usually chronic or progressive in nature. There are over 100 subtypes of dementia, with Alzheimer’s disease being the most common, followed by Vascular Dementia, Lewy Body Dementia, Frontotemporal Dementia, and Mixed Dementias.

Caring for someone with dementia can be extremely stressful and difficult. It is critical that caregivers and family members of people living with dementia look after their own health. There are numerous areas of concern, which can lead to increased stress, fear, and uncertainty. During this event, we will look at how to help caregivers take care of their own health and well-being while caring for a loved one. It is also expected that those who do not care for anyone living with dementia but would like a better understanding of the needs of caregivers, will benefit from this event.
