Some good news, Margaret Keenan who turns 91 next week, becomes the first person in the world to be vaccinated against Covid-19. We may be heading towards overcoming the pandemic. However, the authorities maintain that people must be careful and continue to observe all the measures in place such as social distancing, wearing masks unless advised otherwise on medical grounds, and also using hand gels.
The NHS has begun the biggest campaign in history on the importance and need for people to be vaccinated as the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, endorsed by the UK medicines regulator, is found to be safe and effective. Those to be vaccinated first are the most vulnerable such as those in care homes, 80-year-olds and above in hospitals, the front line staff and care home workers. People will be vaccinated twice, 21 days apart. This will be carried out in 70 designated hospital hubs across the UK.
Where will I get vaccinated?
People will be invited to book an appointment to be vaccinated when it is their turn. The full list of how the vaccination is rolled out can be found on the government (www.gov.uk) and NHS websites.
Will everyone be vaccinated?
The government aim is for as many people, over the age of 16, as possible get vaccinated. This is roughly 50 million people. (www.gov.uk)
